GRIT EXTRAS
MASS SHOOTER RESPONSE
Our 8-hour mass shooter response program covers more than you’ve probably ever experienced in other classes on this topic. We have this program every summer in our regular classes, broken down into eight 1-hour training sessions. For private groups, we offer one 8-hour seminar, or a two-day seminar divided into two 4-hour classes. We discuss what happens in many mass shooter events, getting in the habit of knowing main exits and alternate exits, how to recognize a threat, how to take the lead over other scared people nearby, the difference between cover and concealment, how to reinforce and barricade doors, how to deal with a breached doorway, what to do when police arrive, and how to disarm a gunman with different guns, from different angles. Some of the videos we share and our drills are intense, so we recommend older teenagers and adults take these classes.
CUSTOM SEMINARS
Book a private class for your co-workers, church groups, students, sports teams, or even a girls night out. Our private group seminars last two to eight hours, covering a variety of common threats.
SPEAKING TO YOUR GROUP
If you don’t have the time or ability to actively physically participate in a self-defense seminar, you may schedule a time for us to speak to your group – at work, at school, at church, a community group, etc. We will discuss many things – situational awareness, ‘games’ to help build awareness, tips on what to do and not do, answer questions and concerns your group has, describe the most likely scenarios you may face, how to train de-escalation, and more.
CHURCH & UNARMED SECURITY TRAINING
We train church staff and volunteers about how to start a safety/security team, how to de-escalate situations, deal with threats as discretely as possible, body locks and controls, and how to handle with more dangerous threats. We also offer similar training for security personnel who do not carry weapons.
WOMEN’S SEMINARS
Our skills for women are so great that we teach them to men too! But we understand that some women are more comfortable training with other women at first. A few times a year, we offer women’s-only seminars at Grit, and cover concerns that are typically only what we hear from women. Bring a friend to be your partner to make it even more fun! You may also book a private seminar at Grit or at your own office, party, school, etc… The minimum seminar we provide is two hours, and time goes quickly! We recommend at least three hours. We also have short-term weekly classes for women survivors of violence. It is a great passion of ours to help those who have experienced violence to see themselves as survivors rather than victims, and help build up their confidence, regain their identity, and feel triumphant for not only surviving, but thriving.
SURVIVOR SUPPORT
We understand what it is like to be a victim of violence, and want to help bring you from a victim mindset to a survivor! You did what you had to do to survive, and you are alive and breathing. But you may not feel like you are thriving. We occasionally offer survivor-only classes, but we also offer time for survivors to come together to talk and get to know each other. No judgment, no physical training, you don’t have to share your story if you aren’t comfortable with it, and we don’t have to talk about any violence at all. It is just a type of support system to help each other grow. Currently, our survivor support is only for adult women, but we will expand that to teens, military and first responders, men, and other groups who feel a need to connect so they may grow and thrive.
TEEN CLASSES
During spring and summer breaks, we offer classes for teenagers – middle school and high school ages. We allow ages 13 and up to attend our regular classes, but sometimes the teens enjoy working only with their peers. This is also a great class for us to talk about specific threats and concerns that target teenagers.
GRIT OUTDOORS
This program focuses on self-protection and preparedness for emergency events. A few things we cover include: how and what to pack in an emergency bag (and the difference between one at home and one in your car), tying useful knots, water filtration, making an emergency shelter to keep in your bag so you can set up within two minutes, building a fire, knowing how to use a knife correctly, and much more. This is great for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, but also for anyone who wants to be prepared for any emergency. These classes vary: three-hour emergency bag lectures, six-hour basic skills, and full-day and overnight hiking trips.
